Grocery Store Sale Cycles

What are the rock bottom prices on grocery store items that are on sale now? What items do you need to stock up on during Summer? We are in transition again for seasons and the store will have different products on sale to stock up on now. The Grocery store sale cycle is now in summer mode. Here are some items to keep a look out for when you can get these items on sale and pair them up with a coupon to get that rock bottom stock up price.

It is grilling time so look for brisket and meats along with other grilling items to go on sale around Memorial Day, July4th and Labor Day. You can always freeze it and then have it whenever you want. I do this for hot dogs a lot. Hopefully you stocked up on chili during the winter so you can have chili dogs too!

Hot Dog and Hamburger Buns – $1.00
Hot Dogs –  $1.00 or lower (I try to buy turkey or No Nitrates) or All Beef
Brisket – $1.49 or lower
Soda – FREE, or $0.25 1 liter
Soda 12pk Cans – $2.50 or less
Chips – B1G1, $1.00
Cheese – $3.00 lb or less
Milk – $1.00 ½ Gallon
Creamers – $2.50 or less
Eggs – $1.99 18 count
Yogurt cups $0.30 or less
Ice Cream – $3.00 or less ½ Gallon
Popsicles – FREE, $1.00 or less (I usually make my own)
Strawberries – $1.00lb
Raspberries – $1.00 6 oz tub
Blueberries – $1.00 6 oz tub
Blackberries – $1.00 tub
Mustard – $0.50 or FREE
Ketchup – $0.50 or FREE
Mayo – $1.00
Grapes – $1.00 lb (Freeze them for a great cold snack)
Corn – $0.25 or less an ear
Zucchini and Yellow Squash – $0.88lb

These are the rock bottom prices in my area. I live in a large metropolitan area. Some of these prices may be higher or lower depending on where you live and the availability of these items. You can use these as a guide until you get to know the grocery store sales cycles in your area to know when to stock up on these items during the summer.

Most grocery store sales cycles are from six to eight weeks depending on the product. The summer grocery sale items listed above may cycle faster at a four week cycle compared to something that is not in season. So keep your eyes open for when the grocery store sale items are at or near these prices and stock up on these items.

Read my article on how to freeze fresh fruit and vegetables and best storage methods for these fresh items. I know I like that fact that I froze these myself and I won’t have to pay high prices in the winter for frozen berries for any cakes or pies I want to make.

Here are a couple of coupons for a sealer and sealer bags that I use to store my fresh fruit and veggies.

Money saving Monday – Price Match Walmart

We have a winner for the Giveaway for 6 Earth Friendly Cleaning Products:

Candace B

She has been contacted.

~   ~   ~

Do you want to save more money at Walmart? You can price match any item with another stores ads, including groceries. Some people seem intimidated by doing this since they don’t know how. I am here to walk you through how to price match Walmart and share the policy with you.

How does this work?

Grocery ads are usually mailed to you Tues or Sat. Scan these flyers for items you would buy, then see if you have a coupon to match. A good match up site you can go to is debt free spending. Find the items you want to purchase and the quantities before you go to the store. Having a plan is key to saving money. You are less likely to impulse buy things you don’t need if you have a plan. Collect and have all your coupons ready before you get to the store.

Get organized before you checkout mark which circulars you are going to use for each item. A good idea is to group products of similar stores together so it is easier for the cashier to check you out. Let the cashier know you have price matches when they start to check you out. Ask them nicely how would they like to handle price matches.

Then match your items and let them know you have coupons. The only time this is not good is if you have a store that doubles or triples coupons. Even if you don’t have coupons this is an awesome way to save a ton of money on your groceries. Just think you are getting the best price at from two to three stores by just shopping at one store. What a way to maximize your savings!

A Few Rules from Walmart

Walmart will honor a Buy one Get One FREE (B1G1 or BOGO) deal if the price is marked in the ad. However, if the price is not listed in the ad, Walmart will not honor a B1G1 deal. They will not honor a percentage off and item or close out or going out of business prices. Click for a complete copy of the Walmart’s Price Match policy.

Why I Never Buy Sour Cream

Today is the STARR writing test here in Texas. Little miss is off to school and ready to go. This year she will get the help she needs, since she has been diagnosed with dyslexia. However, this is the hardest test for her since she she will be graded on writing along with spelling. Spelling is the most difficult for children with dyslexia, since they may know all the letters that make up a work but are unsure what order they go in. We were able to write her a letter letting her know we believe in her and her abilities and not to worry about this silly test. If you can say a little prayer she does well today.

Healthy Couponing

Sour Cream

There is a ton of junk food out there you can get with coupons or great deals on junk food. I am not going to say I never buy junk food. I do buy some things because I think it is OK for a small treat every once in awhile. Everything in moderation. I want them to understand you can eat certain food like cookies and ice cream, but only on occasions. Just like cake I don’t have it everyday, so that when it is served I can have a piece and not feel guilty about it. These are treats and should be considered as such.

I started to research how can I provide similar tastes of products that aren’t as healthy, but with more nutrition for my growing kids. I am always looking for way to add calcium, protein and additional vitamins to their diets. Protein tends to stick with you and make you feel full longer than empty sugar calories.  If I am providing a high carb meal I see if there is a way I can sneak in more protein and not change the overall quality or taste of the food.

One switch I have made is using plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or regular yogurt. Greek yogurt has 8grams of protein per one cup serving compared to sour cream only 6grams. I add this to a lot of breakfast items we eat. This gives more protein in a carb packed breakfast such as pancakes or muffins. We also use this instead of sour cream to top tacos, taco soup and anything else delicious you would normally add sour cream to. Where ever you can use sour cream you can use plain Greek yogurt. It is very similar in taste and texture. Whenever there are coupons for Greek yogurt I always make sure I print these healthy coupons.

I cannot always find coupons for plain Greek yogurt. There is a store here in the Dallas area called Sprouts that run sales all the time on Greek Yogurt. I make sure I buy enough to make it last until the next sale. I will make sour cream recipes like stroganoff or tacos when these are available. If I don’t have the greek yogurt we normally don’t have these dishes. That way we still get to enjoy these family favorites, we just do this around sales. That is the secret to reducing your grocery budget. Reviewing what sales are going on to see what items you can purchase on sale and make your meals around those items. By do this, you will greatly reduce your grocery budget every week and still buy healthy items.

Have you tried Greek yogurt before? How do you cook with Greek Yogurt?

Friday Finals – Kroger, Tom Thumb, Sprouts, Walgreens, CVS

I have been a shopping fool this week. I am over budget again, but I am not shopping next week for sure. Sometimes a good deal is hard to pass up. I need to reassess my shopping and cut back to needs only.
